Home PBX Brief

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Fusion PBX and figured I’d brief my home PBX setup for you.

Hardware:

  • ATOM Dual core board 2gb ram 80gb harddrive fanless
  • Snom 870 phone x 2
  • Linksys SPA 942
  • Polycom SoundPoint IP 500 x2

Seems like a lot of hardware for my house, yes? Well, it is. Mostly because it’s not all here, one of the snom’s, the linksys and one of the polycom’s are remote at friends houses. I have 5 users of the PBX including myself, about to become 6.

Software:

  • Ubuntu Linux
  • Freeswitch
  • FusionPBX

I installed/configured freeswitch from source from a GIT checkout and am using an SVN version of Fusion (svn update is such an easy way to get the latest version ;) ).  Right now upteim is at 53 days with load averages at .23 .51  .57. Freeswitch on average consumes right at 10% CPU with 1-3 people on the phone.. with 5-7 calls in/out it’s at about 15%.  I’ve used 5% of the hard drive and ram hovers at 80% used.  It’s a very smooth system and I haven’t had a lot of problems. Configuration is easy even with 6 sip accounts (Some of us have 2 per user). Outbound config is the only interesting part,  to make sure each user goes out his/her proper gateway.

Very pleased with it thus far, I manage 5 phone numbers just myself with it.
