Xetolosch - I'll be creating an entire walkthrough very very shortly. I'm re-doing the PBX onto a fresh install and a complete setup guide + fusion walkthrough is in the works!

Measurable, defined, dedicated CPU usage was a huge thing for me. knowing I had 600mhz or 1200mhz always always available, no matter what the other nodes on the box were doing. Lots more price points- for $38/month I get 1.2ghz cpu, 768mb of ram, 500GB of transfer and 20gb of storage. I can add daily nodes for $1/day if I have a busy day or two (like when the local press picked up one of my sites, 5 day burst of traffic) and most importantly: my past experience with Media Temple. I still maintain a GS account to host big files and email on but after battling the latency of the NFS on the grid and the always spotty performance (despite my best efforts to cache everything etc etc) led to me just abandoning ship on mission critical things.

To be clear: The Grid Service in theory is perfect for me. No manual management of the Server, lots of domains, lots of storage, a great price, scalable when I get hit with moderate traffic, easy MYSQL managment and no-hassel Email hosting for my domains. It gets even better when you add in all the fun development tools- SVN builds in nicely to my development scenario etc. All touchless, all without me dinking on a command line for hours. In theory I would NEVER leave the grid. If the grid worked, that is. What I got was terrible performance on my very very small traffic sites, pray someone else didn't do something stupid and soak up the grid, and lately even email has been having problems.

Administering my own server was my last choice- trust me. But my site is way faster than it was on the grid, and while i'm now paying for both the grid and this, I don't worry about login to my wordpress sites timing out.

Hi there! Looks like you're chugging along just fine. May I ask why you left (mt) Media Temple instead of looking into our (dv) Dedicated-Virtual Server's or (ve) Server's? Just curious!
